Senegal School Build
During my role as Assistant Activities Vice President for the Panhellenic Council at the University of Florida, I served as the primary liaison between the council and the Circle of Sisterhood philanthropy. Circle of Sisterhood aims to remove educational barriers for women and girls in order to break the cycle of poverty. As such, I worked with Circle of Sisterhood and their partner, buildOn to organize for the council to fund a school to be built for a community in Keur Adama Dia, Senegal. I, additionally, planned for a team of 16 women from the Panhellenic Council to participate in a buildOn Trek and travel to Senegal to assist in the construction of the school. In selecting these team members, I created and read through each application as well as conducted interviews. After having selected the team, I scheduled and facilitated monthly intercultural awareness meetings for the team to prepare for the Trek.
Unfortunately, the Trek to Senegal was ultimately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the construction of the school was able to be completed in November of 2021. The school is currently used to instruct 67 students, 51 of them being girls.
